|
|
From Saturday, June 20, until Sunday, July 5, Jaski Art Gallery organizes a new show by Chris Berens, titled 'White Ones', with thirteen new works.
As the results of his solo-exhibition in Seattle and a group exhibition in Los Angeles prove, Chris Berens is very successful abroad with his magic panels, created with mixed media.
For 'White Ones' many international art lovers as well as Berens-fans from The Netherlands have also shown huge interest already. During this summer the Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch will take care of an overview of the works by Chris Berens.

In cooperation with the artist, Jaski Art Gallery has published a new print by Chris Berens, titled 'The Kiss (It all comes down to this)'. It is a gicleeprint with an edition of only 45.

For a total of five days, some 180 galleries from Germany and abroad presented modern classics, post-war art and contemporary art on two different floors. Art Cologne offered painting, sculpture, installations, video art, photography, works on paper, editions and multiples in a select presentation of the healthy variety of the modern and contemporary art trade in Europe and overseas.

Jaski Art Gallery experienced a very satisfying Tefaf 2009, the world's most important art and antique fair in the MECC-buildings in Maastricht. We sold Corneille's masterpiece 'Jeux d'Enfants' from 1950, as well as 'Figure' by Karel Appel and 'Blue' by Bram Bogart. Also works by Cole Morgan, Eugène Brands and Lucebert were sold.
We showed other unique CoBrA-works as well. For example we exhibited the fascinating 'Three figures' by Karel Appel, a mixed media on paper from 1967. With different works we represented Corneille as well, just like Constant, Eugène Brands, Theo Wolvecamp, Anton Rooskens, Asger Jorn, Pierre Alechinsky and Lucebert, from whom we have the beautiful gouache 'Lagrasse', which he created in 1963. We also exhibited works by Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol and Kees van Bohemen.

Breakthrough Chris Berens in United States is a fact
|
|
|
|
It looks like the breakthrough of Chris Berens in the United States now officially is a fact. Until January 20, 2009, new works by him were shown in a special exhibition titled 'Go west', in the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle. Jaski Art Gallery was involved in the organization of this very spectacular show. The critics were very enthusiastic. The show, 32 works, was almost sold out immediately.
In relation to 'Go west', Berens was interviewed by the well known American art magazine Hi-Fructose. During this interview the artist explained to Kirsten Anderson which different and rather uncommon techniques he uses. See these two TouTube-films.

|
|
|
|
With a humoristic speech famous Dutch filmproducer Rob Houwer, just returned from a visit to New York, opened the new solo exhibition 'Competition' with works by Judith Wiersema, in our gallery on Saturday, November 15.
According to the artist, who was interviewed by Dutch tv-star Ivo Niehe in his 'TV Show op Reis' a couple of days before, her sculptures reflected the ongoing battle of women in the modern western society. During the official opening the gallery was completely crowded. The show went on until Sunday, November 30.

|
The Affordable Art Fair in Amsterdam has proved to be very successful for Jaski Art Gallery. The financial crisis didn't stop the art lovers. Many pieces of art, originals and graphic works, were sold. For example, the works of Emilio Kruithof, Karel Appel and Chris Berens were popular.
Jaski was one of the 87 participants. The prices of the works were not higher than € 5000. The fair was organized from Thursday, October 30, until Sunday, November 2, in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. Not only the official opening of AAF08, on Wednesday, October 29, was very well attended. Each day thousands of people visited the fair.
Especially for this fair Emilio Kruithof created two beautiful new canvasses, smaller than usual. We also showed the three new gicleeprints by Chris Berens, and works by Constant, Karel Appel, Corneille, Rob Scholte, Dorien Plaat and Les Deux Garçons as well.

During the very well visited show at Jaski many works were sold. One of the visitors was prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme. He was one of the guests of the Stan Huygens Journaal during its annual classic carriage tour along the canals of Amsterdam. Click on the images for enlargements.

Healthy Corneille visits gallery

|
Robbert van Ham, Corneille and his wife Natasja
Corneille is in good health again. During a visit he paid to Jaski Art Gallery, the 86-year old painter showed good spirit. It is clear that he has overwon his disease. In the company of his wife Natasja, Corneille stayed in Amsterdam for some days. The couple didn't want to do that without visiting Jaski.
Corneille showed much interest in the works which at that moment could be viewed at Jaski Art Gallery. In particular he enjoyed watching the works by Constant, Brands and by himself. Proudly he stated that it was sixty years ago that the CoBrA-movement started.

Le destin bon - Les Deux Garçons - taxidermi - 2008

L'adieu impossible (detail) Les Deux Garçons taxidermi - 2008
'L'adieu impossible', the spectacular exhibition with taxidermi sculptures by Les Deux Garçons, was such an enormous success, that we decided to continu to show the remaining five works to the public during the summer of 2008 until the Cole Morgan-exhibition. We combined the schulptures with paintings by Emilio Kruithof, Chris Berens and various CoBrA-artists.
For their exciting taxidermi-art Roel Moonen (1966) and Michel Vanderheyden van Tinteren (1965), who form Les Deux Garçons, use materials that they do not only find in the studio of the taxidermist, but for example also at auctions and in antique shops. They present their deer, lams and piglets often as conjoined twins and with attributes like toy guns, banknotes and perfume bottles, for them symbols of fear, fate and transcience.
The official opening of 'L'adieu impossible', on Saturday, May 17, 2008, was done by Jan Hein Sassen, former head of conservation of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.

One of these works is titled 'Show me' and is shown on the right (click on the image for an enlargement). This painting measures 200 by 150 centimeters. Its name was also the title of the exhibition and of a new book about the works by Emilio, a large 'glossy' in an edition of 2000.

Sometimes Emilio Kruithof manages to draw attention in a very special way.
Three of his works - click om the images for an enlargement - served as background in the Dutch movie 'Alles is liefde' ('Love is all'), a romantic comedy which broke alle visitor records.
In the bedroom of Klaasje van Ophorst, played by Wendy van Dijk, two silkscreenprints and one litho were visible, which are created by Jaski Art Gallery in cooperation with Emilio. In all cases the edition of these graphic works is 150. They are titled 'The lover she used to be' (silkscreen, 90 x 125 cm, € 950), 'Mask' (silkscreen, 95 x 95 cm, € 850) and 'Magic mirror' (litho, 25 x 30 cm, € 250).
These works can still be purchased in our gallery, just like other graphic works by Kruithof.
